It is a debate almost as old as Buffalo wings themselves: is ranch or blue cheese the superior dip? The Big Game is second in our minds to this fierce competition.
CivicScience, an opinion analytics platform, conducted a survey in August of 2014 to determine the nation's preferred buffalo wing dip. They polled 1,401 Americans over the age of 13, and the results were surprising.
The CivicScience researchers discovered that 71% of people ages 18-29, and 65% of people ages 30-34, prefer ranch, while 45% of people ages 35-54 prefer blue cheese. There was no correlation found between gender and preferred dip.
Most interestingly, those who make over $75,000 tend to prefer blue cheese, but those making between $100-125k are evenly split between blue cheese and ranch. Most people who make under $25,000 annual prefer ranch. People with only a high school degree or GED choose ranch over blue cheese 74% to 26%. The survey also determined that avid home chefs and sports fans prefer blue cheese to ranch.
Overall, the CivicScience survey found that more Americans prefer to dip their Buffalo wings in ranch dressing than in blue cheese dressing. Another poll, done in 2018 by GrubHub, solidifies these results: 59% of those polled indicated that they prefer ranch dressing.
Sorry, blue cheese lovers--we know that this is hard to hear!
