If you’re the kind of person who keeps a stash of Chipotle’s black plastic forks in your kitchen drawer, then congratulations—you’re already ahead of the trend. Because now, you can pay $30 to make it official.

In celebration of National Fork Day on April 8, Chipotle is taking fast-food merch to the next level by releasing what it calls the “Extra Fork Collection.” It’s a premium display box packed with 53 of its iconic black forks and two free entrée cards. Yes, you read that right: a fancy box of disposable cutlery is now a collectible item. And if history is any indication, it’ll probably sell out.

The Cult of the Chipotle Fork

If you’ve ever eaten a Chipotle Burrito Bowl, you’ve used one of these forks. They’re different—sturdier, matte-textured, slightly rounded—and fans swear by them. They’re the kind of utensil that doesn’t bend under pressure, making them ideal for scooping up the perfect bite of rice, beans, and guac. Some even argue that food just tastes better when eaten with one.

The hype isn’t just anecdotal. Social media is filled with memes about Chipotle’s forks, and one viral post from @jaystick_ even claimed that they’re a “flavor enhancer.” If you know, you know. And if you don’t? Well, let’s just say there’s a reason people stockpile these forks like they’re the secret ingredient to a perfect meal.

Forks, Merch, and the Power of Hype

Chipotle isn’t new to the world of quirky, limited-edition merch. Remember the “Water” Cup Candle from 2022? That little joke on soda thieves turned into a viral sensation. The fast-casual giant has mastered the art of taking small, everyday details—things its most devoted fans obsess over—and turning them into must-have collectibles.

The Extra Fork Collection is no different. It will be available for purchase exclusively on chipotlegoods.com starting at 9 a.m. PT (12:00 pm EST) on April 8, 2025. If you’re a Chipotle Rewards member, you can also try your luck at winning a set through the Rewards Exchange—just trade 10 points per entry, up to 15 entries per member.

More Fork-Inspired Swag

For those who want to take their Chipotle love beyond just cutlery, the chain is also restocking some fork-themed apparel. This includes classic fork-logo designs and a standout piece: a textured airbrushed fork and cloud tee by Austin-based graphic artist Julia Dufossé. Originally released in 2023 as part of Chipotle’s artist-designed Mystery Tee drop, it’s making a comeback for all the true fork fans out there.

A Marketing Play That Just Works

At first glance, selling a box of plastic forks for $30 sounds ridiculous. But for a brand like Chipotle, it makes total sense. It’s not really about the forks—it’s about the fandom. This is about nostalgia, inside jokes, and that feeling of belonging to a community that gets it.

"We love creating unexpected moments that ignite our passionate community and showcase their Chipotle fandom," said Stephnie Perdue, Chipotle's Vice President of Brand Marketing, in a statement shared with Tasting Table.

And let’s be honest—if you’re still reading this, you probably get it too.
