Happy National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! Every year on August 4th, we pay tribute to the accidental creation that changed the dessert game forever: the chocolate chip cookie.
The chocolate chip cookie's story began at the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts in the 1930s. The Toll House Inn's chef, Ruth Graves Wakefield, ran out of baker's chocolate while making her usual Butter Drop Do cookies. She decided to use chopped-up semi-sweet chocolate instead, hoping it would melt and disperse throughout the dough. But, to her surprise, the chocolate held its shape, and the first-ever batch of chocolate chip cookies was born!
Since then, these delectable cookies have become a worldwide sensation, winning hearts and taste buds of people across generations. From classic chewy versions to ooey-gooey, double-chocolate extravaganzas, the chocolate chip cookie has taken on countless forms, and we can't get enough!
