It might still be cold and wintery—but if you’re anything like me, your mind is already drifting to warmer days. You’re browsing for new gear, maybe eyeing that perfect cooler for beach days, camping trips, or tailgates. But before you grab a new one—or drag last year’s trusty sidekick out of the garage—you’ll want to check the label.
Because if that cooler is from Igloo, it could cost you more than just a few drinks—it might cost you a fingertip. Seriously.
Igloo just recalled over 1 million of its 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers after reports surfaced that the tow handle is more of a finger guillotine than a helpful feature. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), at least 12 people have suffered serious injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and deep cuts, all from a handle that can pinch and crush fingers when being pulled.
The affected coolers were sold between January 2019 and January 2025 at big-name spots like Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Amazon. They come in various colors but all feature a tow handle and the classic “Igloo” logo stamped on the side.
If you’ve got one, pause your summer daydreams and check your stash. This recall covers about 1,060,000 coolers in the U.S., plus thousands more in Canada and Mexico.
