Move over, hard seltzer and tequila! There’s a new contender for the title of most approachable, refreshing, and eco-conscious drink, and it’s coming in a box and can. Nomadica Wines is redefining what it means to enjoy a quality glass of wine without the intimidation factor, attracting everyone from casual sippers to adventurous, young drinkers who previously swore by canned cocktails.
Nomadica’s founder, Kristin Olszewski, brings a refreshing take on wine with a resume that boasts experience as a sommelier at some of the country’s finest dining spots, including Nancy Silverton’s Osteria Mozza. In 2017, she saw an opportunity to make wine approachable and sustainable, appealing to a new generation with a penchant for convenience and quality. With Nomadica, Olszewski set out to prove that good wine doesn’t need a glass bottle, a sommelier, or a daunting price tag. Her aim? To bring the allure of fine wine to anyone over 21 who’s looking for an alternative to sugary canned cocktails and hard seltzers.

“There’s this popular misconception that a great wine costs a lot of money, which it doesn’t,” says Olszewski. “You can get inexpensive bottles of wine that are still high quality. I noticed that as soon as I kind of held people’s hand and walked them through the door of wine, they were hooked. I wanted to do that on a larger scale as we all kind of trend towards what’s natural, what’s minimally processed, what’s better for you. It always seemed like such a myth to me that people are drinking these ready-to-drink cocktails that have a ton of sugar or a ton of chemicals instead of just drinking wine.” - According to FoodBeast

Nomadica’s wines come in eco-friendly cans and boxes, making them perfect for on-the-go events, beach days, or even a cozy night at home. Each can and box is a small-batch, carefully crafted wine sourced from renowned vineyards, chosen with quality and flavor in mind. Olszewski wants her customers to feel at ease with wine and not overthink the “rules.”
“Wine is not super precious,” Olszewski emphasizes. “Just taste it, just drink it. And when in doubt with a pairing, just go with bubbles. Bubbles can literally pair with everything from oysters and crudo to a steak dinner. Don’t worry too much about the rules. Obviously, I put fine wine in the can, so I’m not worried about rules, but that’s my ethos.”
Nomadica’s mission to deliver wine in more sustainable packaging also sets it apart. After learning that the majority of a wine bottle’s carbon footprint comes from the glass itself, Olszewski felt compelled to innovate. “Only 30% of glass wine bottles are recycled in the US. They’re highly energy-intensive to make, really heavy to ship, and the fact is most wine does not need to be in a glass bottle,” she notes. By embracing cans and boxes, Nomadica is significantly reducing waste while keeping quality and taste at the forefront.
With the global canned wine market booming and projected to grow from $773.4 million in 2023 to $2.5 billion by 2030, it’s clear that eco-friendly packaging is here to stay. Olszewski, who’s worked in sustainable agriculture, understands that most wines are best enjoyed fresh and young. “Anything that you’re consuming that’s fresh, vibrant, and young actually maybe is better served in a can or a box,” she explains, mentioning that Nomadica was among the first to pioneer fine wine in a can.
So, if you’re ready to break out of the hard seltzer cycle or need a break from tequila, Nomadica’s got a wine for you. Available in Red, White, Orange, and Rosé, each 3L box retails for $50, offering the equivalent of four bottles. This isn’t just wine; it’s wine with a modern twist — less fuss, less waste, and all the flavor.
