Starbucks Is Selling Olive Oil Coffee Drinks

Lynn

Starbucks is well-known for their innovative coffee drinks, and they've really outdone themselves with the latest creation: olive oil coffee.

Starbucks Oleato Beverages combine their freshly brewed coffee with Partanna extra virgin olive oil. Adding olive oil to coffee is said to provide depth, dimension, and a smooth, velvety texture to the drink.

Starbucks is offering three different Oleato beverages at select locations: Starbucks Reserve® Roasteries and Reserves in Chicago, Seattle and New York, and select Starbucks stores in Seattle and Los Angeles.

"The inviting aroma of lush Partanna extra virgin olive oil infused cold foam cascades slowly through the dark, smooth cold brew, creating a subtle sweetness in the beverage."

While the images show coffee drinks with no visual presence of olive oil, some Starbucks fans did not receive anything of the sort. One TikTok user @bananashrooms posted a video of their Oleato drink, and it looks anything but appetizing. The video shows a layer of coagulated olive oil on the top that can't seem to emulsify into the coffee.

Insider writer Phoebe Hunt tried the beverages, and expressed her opinions in a March 22, 2023 article. She stated that the olive oil taste was strong, and added a very creamy texture to the drinks. However, she noticed that with the iced drinks, "the olive oil started to separate from the rest of the ingredients, causing an unappetizing oil barrier on top".
