The Weirdest Food and Drink Laws in Each of the 50 States!

Alabama - It is illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket while walking down the street.


Alaska - In Fairbanks, Alaska it is illegal to give alcoholic drinks to a moose. This law was put in place to keep a local bar owner from getting his pet moose drunk, as the moose would terrorize the town in its drunken stupor.

Arizona - It is illegal to refuse someone a glass of water. Arizona is extremely hot and dry, which is the perfect recipe for a bout of dehydration.


Arkansas - It is unlawful to suddenly start or stop one's vehicle or to make any loud noise while near/at the premises of a drive through food establishment.


California - In San Francisco, one cannot carry baked goods intended for human consumption in open or exposed containers.


Colorado - Those riding a horse while intoxicated can catch a DUI charge.


Connecticut - It is illegal to call a pickle a pickle unless it bounces. This one is valid because no one likes a soggy pickle!


Delaware - On Sundays, liquor stores can only sell alcohol from 12 PM - 8 PM.


Florida - In Tampa, It is illegal to eat cottage cheese after 6 PM on Sundays.


Georgia - Restaurant diners in Gainesville cannot eat chicken with a fork and knife--hands only!

Hawaii - It was illegal for bar or restaurant patrons to have more than one drink in front of them at once. In 2014, the law was repealed as it was realized that this law caused people to chug alcoholic drinks in order to receive another.


Idaho - In Tamarack, one cannot buy onions after dark without a permit.


Illinois - It is illegal to eat inside of a burning building.


Indiana - In Gary, a person may not enter a movie house, theater, or ride a public streetcar if they have consumed garlic within the past four hours.


Iowa - Operating an ice cream truck is illegal.


Kansas - It is illegal to catch a fish with your bare hands.


Kentucky - Anyone who has been drinking is seen as sober in the eyes of the law if they are able to stand up.


Louisiana - You cannot have more than three sandwiches at a memorial or wake unless the host gives you permission.


Maine - In Wells, York County, it is illegal for regular civilians to feed or bait deer. Only the Commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and the Director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service can partake in feeding or baiting of deer.

Maryland - It is illegal to eat while swimming in the ocean.


Massachusetts - It is illegal to use tomatoes in the production of clam chowder.


Michigan - It is illegal to be drunk on a train.


Minnesota - In St. Cloud, it is illegal to heat hamburgers on Sundays. (Do cheeseburgers count?)


Mississippi - Selling cat meat for food is illegal.


Missouri - Those under the age of 21 can be charged with illegal possession of alcohol for taking out trash bags containing empty alcohol containers.


Montana - It is illegal for unmarried women to go fishing alone.


Nebraska - In Lehigh, it is illegal to sell donut holes. They're considered a waste product, and therefore a source of undue profit.

New Hampshire - Restaurant salt shakers cannot have an opening that is larger than 3/8 of an inch.


New Jersey - It is illegal to slurp soup in public.


New Mexico - It is against the law to carry a lunch box down the main road in Las Cruces.


New York - Prior to 2016, it was illegal for restaurants to serve alcohol with brunch.


North Carolina - It is illegal to serve alcohol during a game of bingo.


North Dakota - Pretzels and beer cannot be served together.


Ohio - In Columbus, it is illegal for stores to sell corn flakes on Sunday.


Oklahoma - It is illegal to take a bite of another person's hamburger.


Oregon - One cannot towel-dry dishes, they must drip dry.


Pennsylvania - In Philadelphia, it is illegal to put pretzels in bags.


Rhode Island - Throwing pickle juice on a trolley is illegal.


South Carolina - The only thing that can be sold within a half mile radius of churches is fruit.


South Dakota - It is illegal to lay down and fall asleep in a cheese production facility.

Utah - It is illegal to not drink milk.


Virginia - Lettuce and peanut brittle cannot be sold on Sundays.

West Virginia - Chickens can only lay eggs between 8 AM - 4 PM.


Wisconsin - It is illegal to produce cheese that is not "highly pleasing". Now that I think of it, I have never met a Wisconsin cheese that wasn't highly pleasing!


Wyoming - It is illegal to kill fish with a firearm.
