Everyone loves a warm, soft, melt-in-your-mouth Krispy Kreme donut. But, what gives these donuts their world-famous taste?
No one really knows, except a select few Krispy Kreme VIPs who have been sworn to secrecy. According to many unofficial sources, the Krispy Kreme donut recipe is locked in a vault at the company headquarters located in North Carolina.
Krispy Kreme founder Vernon Rudolph's son, Carver, and food historians worked together to try and piece together the recipe. From what they uncovered, they believe the original recipe for the famous donuts contained fluffed egg whites, sugar, shortening, skim milk, and...mashed potatoes! Krispy Kreme has claimed that they still use a slightly adapted version of the original recipe, so there is a good chance that the secret to these mouthwatering donuts is mashed potatoes, but the world may never know.
